Elements of the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Tamaulipas detained a couple from Merida, Yucatan, at the facilities of the U.S. Consulate General, after presenting false documents to apply for a tourist visa.
The detainees identified as Karina B. and Alex Ch. traveled to Matamoros, with the intention of entering the United States. The man and the woman, recently married, arrived in this city to do the process, however, they showed a false marriage certificate.
Security personnel at the diplomatic headquarters requested the intervention of Matamoros authorities to proceed with the couple who tried to deceive them. The couple was taken to the General Investigation Police Station and placed at the disposal of the prosecutor on duty.
It is worth mentioning that there are several people from Oxkutzcab who have allegedly been able to deceive the US consulate in the visa process; in some cases they are advised by local lawyers.
