The Agronomy Federation of Yucatan announced that it has begun the process to export mamey, pitahaya, and avocado to Canada, China, the United States, and Japan since current production volumes allow a container of these products to be sent at least every three months.
Francisco Martín Gamboa Suárez, president of the organization, stated that as part of the project, they will look for a link with the Secretary of Rural Development (Seder) of the State Government, as well as with the Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader) of the Federal Government.
He added that the international market in China is demanding the purchase of “Cebollitas de Ixil” (chambray onion from the town of Ixil), since it is considered an aphrodisiac product. However, at this time it will not be possible to commercialize it because the production volume is minimal.
He recalled that the vegetable is grown in the municipalities of Ixil and Valladolid and added that, given this situation, the Agronomy Federation of Yucatan will seek to generate the conditions to expand the production of “cebollitas” and generate the conditions for its exportation.
“We are currently promoting a project to export pitahaya, avocado, and mamey. We are looking for direct commercialization by the producers and not by the intermediaries. They do not allow the producer to get ahead. These products can be sent to Canada, China, Japan, and the United States, we are trying to link directly with Seder and Sader as part of this work,” stated Gamboa Suarez.
The interviewee added that this project started last year and that for this purpose they had contact with businessmen who are able to make the purchases.
