During 2022, Yucatan registered a historic accumulated flow of Foreign Direct Investment by reaching 535.9 million dollars (mdd), the highest figure since records have been kept, as a result of the policy of international promotion and attraction of investments that generate jobs for Yucatecans promoted by Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal.

According to the report of the Ministry of Economy (SE), this amount of Foreign Direct Investment registered in the state during the past year meant a growth of 268.2% compared to the same period in 2021 and far exceeded the national figure of 11.9%, placing it among the first places with the highest growth in that period.

In that period, the countries that allocated the greatest flow of Foreign Direct Investment to Yucatan were the United States, Canada, Argentina and Spain.

In 2022, the subsectors with the highest accumulated investment were Generation, transmission and distribution of electricity, water and gas with an inflow of $319 million dollars; Transportation, mail and storage, with $65.2 million dollars; Temporary accommodation and food preparation services with an inflow of $58.7 million dollars; and Manufacturing industry with an inflow of $43.3 million dollars.

Proof that the efforts to promote competitive advantages and that more and more firms are choosing Yucatan, today there is an investment package with an amount of more than 260 projects for 118 billion pesos from firms such as Airbus, Tesla, Amazon, Walmart, Accenture and Leoni, which are opening more and better sources of jobs for Yucatecan families.

It should be remembered that, since the beginning of his term, Governor Vila Dosal set as one of his goals to position Yucatan as an attractive pole for large investments and companies that generate better paying jobs and social development opportunities for the people of the state.

Several of these large companies have turned their eyes to Yucatán, such as the Japanese firm Uchiyama Manufacturing Corporation, which created its auto parts plant in the state, with an investment of 65 million dollars, that is, more than 1.326 billion pesos for the installation of the factory located in the industrial corridor of Hunucmá.

Similarly, the Italian naval giant Fincantieri is scheduled to arrive, which will create and operate a shipyard, the largest in the Americas, through an investment in the first stage of 150 million dollars and could reach up to 500 million dollars in the longer term, which would represent the generation of thousands of direct and indirect jobs for the inhabitants of the port.

Another company that bet on Yucatan was Vertical Knits with a new factory in which 90 million pesos are invested, which makes a total of 5 of this company in Yucatan, along with those established in Baca, Espita and Tizimín, where 4,250 Yucatecans work.

There is also the Chinese company Woodgenix, which has established three factories in the state since 2020 and announced plans to continue expanding its presence in Yucatán with the construction of a fourth plant of 35,000 square meters in 2023.

Last June, Vila Dosal managed to get the Spanish company Grupo CHR, dedicated to the construction industry, to invest 22 million euros, equivalent to more than 462 million pesos approximately, and generating more than 600 jobs in the next 2 years for the establishment of a partnership of companies that together with local firms will develop a series of projects in the construction sector, development and promotion of housing.

More achievements of the promotion of Yucatan to the world have been the investments of companies such as Amazon, Walmart, Tesla, Holcim, among others, who have decided to settle in Yucatan and continue growing, given the benefits offered here.
