Tragic collision between trucks on the Merida-Cancun highway

March 23.- The driver of a cargo truck was crushed to death after crashing into another unit on the Holcá-Libre Unión highway.

The events took place in the early hours of this Thursday, when the driver of a truck, belonging to a well-known grocery company, was driving on the Merida-Cancun highway and during the aforementioned stretch, lost control of the steering wheel and left the pavement.

However, in an abrupt attempt to rejoin the asphalt road, he invaded the other lane and crashed head-on into another truck.

The impact was so strong that the driver of the first vehicle, who was about 50 years old, was crushed and died at the scene of the accident.

Witnesses passing by the scene called the emergency services, and within minutes agents of the Secretaría de Seguridad Pública (Public Safety Secretariat) arrived to the scene and closed the traffic.

Paramedics also arrived in the area and gave first aid to the other driver and later transferred him to a hospital in Valladolid, as he was reported to be in serious condition.
