MÉRIDA, Yucatan, March 22, 2023.- The Socorro Cerón multi-gymnasium of the Kukulcán Sports Unit was the setting for the inauguration of the seventh edition of the Higher Secondary Education Sports Games (JUDEMS), an event in which more than 1,700 students from more than 60 schools in Yucatan will participate.
Dr. Marcela Zamudio Maya, Director of Academic Development of the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán (UADY), informed that this University promotes academic training for excellence and the practice of sports is an important part of the integral formation of citizens, which is why the University organizes these games.
He indicated that in this seventh edition more than 1,700 students from more than 50 institutions of higher secondary education and 10 subsystems of higher secondary education in the state will participate in this sporting event in which 15 disciplines will be practiced in both the men’s and women’s branches and for the first time tochito will be included in the event’s program.
Carlos Estrada Pinto, rector of the Uady, informed that, by authorization of Carlos Saenz Castillo, director of the Sports Institute of the State of Yucatan (IDEY), the soccer final will be played at the Carlos Iturralde Rivero Stadium, baseball at the Kukulcan Alamo Park and volleyball and basketball at the Zamna Polyforum.
“Beyond the fact that if they are among the first places and get medals, the important thing here is to participate, live together and enjoy, that is the goal. With that we will be satisfied and we will have said that it was worth all the effort and resources so that you can carry out these sports activities,” he said.

Liborio Vidal Aguilar, head of the Secretary of Education of the State Government (Segey), said he was pleased to see young people not only from the Yucatecan capital, but also from the interior of the state. “There are several municipalities in this event and this is how we create healthy coexistence and that more than in sports. Here is the present and future of Yucatan”.
After the inaugural speech by the rector of the Uady, teachers David Ad Rendón and Alicia Alejandra Cupul Ramírez, from Prepa 2 and 1, respectively, swore in the judges, while Nagvid Nohema Ek Bermont and Emir Hernández Salgado swore in the athletes.
