Authorities put up metal fences at Merida’s Monumento a la Patria prior to the march for International Women’s Day.

The Monumento a la Patria in Merida is shielded on the eve of the march to commemorate International Women’s Day this Wednesday, March 8.

Traffic in the area is heavy, as circulation remains closed. The site is guarded by elements of the Secretaría de Seguridad Pública (SSP), who are also regulating the traffic, which at times is heavy.

Unlike the monuments to Justo Sierra and Felipe Carrillo Puerto, this one has thicker wood and metal fences in front, like those used during the visit of the President of the United States to Mérida a few years ago.
