Last Monday night, municipal authorities announced the theft of light bulbs and protectors installed just weeks ago on the main avenue at the entrance to Chumayel.
In January, the installation of lamps that adorned and illuminated the place was completed, as part of the construction of the embankment in the area of the general cemetery and the entrance to the town.
For the above, new electrical systems were provided for the lighting system in the embankment and about 32 lamps with photocells were placed for public lighting at the main entrance, eight around the cemetery and 24 on the avenue.
The citizens were not pleased, since last Monday night, the Chumayel City Hall informed through its official Facebook account, that the theft of light bulbs and protectors from the sidewalk of the avenue was reported at the main entrance of the municipality.
It should be noted that during the installation works in January, the municipal authority acknowledged that there is a lack of awareness among citizens to take care of public spaces.
“People do not take care of the installations, we have made changes of light bulbs in several poles of the population and the next day they were already stolen; in some colonies the cables have also been stolen. These acts affect the entire population, we have to be more aware of this”, shared the authorities.
After the light bulbs were stolen, the comments on social networks were not long in coming, the locals asked for more vigilance on the part of the police, since in the last few days there have been robberies in some properties; and some even affirmed that “the police themselves are the thieves“.
Finally, the City Council urged the general public to continue taking care of public spaces, “since they belong to and for the people,” it said through Facebook.
