Early Tuesday, March 7th, the Popocatepetl volcano registered an impressive eruption that was captured by Cenapred and WebCams Mexico cameras.
It was recorded at 2:50 a.m. this Tuesday morning and the video shows the release of incandescent material and what appears to be smoke and ash.
Volcanic traffic light remains at Yellow Phase 2
Popocatepetl’s Volcanic Alert Traffic Light is at YELLOW PHASE 2.
According to the parameters of the Semaphore, at this point the volcano presents increased activity, with sporadic explosions. It can be observed:
- Continuous plume of water vapor and gas.
- Slight to moderate ash fall in nearby towns.
- Release of incandescent fragments and the possibility of short-range pyroclastic flows associated with the explosions.
- Growth and destruction of lava domes
- Short-range mud or debris flows
Authorities recommend not to climb the crater of the volcano since there is the possibility of explosions, as has been seen on several occasions in the past, which imply the emission of incandescent fragments and in case of heavy rains; they also call to stay away from the bottom of ravines due to the danger of mud and debris flows.
