03/21/2023 | Mérida, Yucatán. The god Kin was seen on the second attempt. After the cloudy skies on Monday, March 20 made it impossible to appreciate the astronomical phenomenon of the spring equinox in the Archaeological Zone of Dzibilchaltún, this Tuesday, March 21, the Sun was positioned in the windows of the Temple of the Seven Dolls.

Since 5:00 a.m., local, national and foreign visitors began to arrive, patiently waiting for the sunrise in order to fill themselves with energy and good vibes.

There were about 850 people who this Tuesday appreciated the phenomenon that marks the beginning of spring, while on Monday there were about 280 visitors.

“Although it is a smaller number than expected, it allows us to speak of a recovery, which we will evidently see reflected in the coming months, during the winter solstice,” commented Arturo Chab, director of the INAH Yucatán Center.

Minutes after six o’clock in the morning, as the sun rose, the attendees observed its entrance to each of the windows of the temple and applauded gratefully for having been able to appreciate this movement.
Some groups of tourists performed rituals such as cleansing, meditation and prayer to begin this new cycle.
