

To guarantee the right of women to live in an environment of peace, equality and justice, the Hospital Regional de Alta Especialidad de la Península de Yucatán (HRAEPY) signed the document “Zero Tolerance to Sexual Harassment and Sexual Harassment” on International Women’s Day.
Doctors, nurses, social workers, administrative staff, directors, assistant directors and area chiefs joined the declaration, which took place in the hospital’s central garden.
During the meeting, Dr. Yareth Maldonado Ortiz, Intensive Care Physician, attached to the Intensive Care area, said that “51 percent of the Mexican population are women, in 2022 violence against women reached historic figures; the survey on gender violence and sexual harassment 2022, reflected that 77 percent of women have been victims of sexual harassment at some point in their lives.
Dr. Maldonado Ortiz also mentioned that in order to solve this environment of violence, society must make visible, accept and recognize that women experience violence, so it is necessary to activate a support network to help those who need it, because “together we are stronger,” she concluded.
Dr. Esperanza Figueroa Hurtado, specialist in Pediatric Pneumology, spoke in favor of the struggle of women, where each one goes through different ways to create awareness and conditions to transform social relations and thus eliminate any kind of violence against women.

For his part, Dr. Alfredo Jesús Medina Ocampo, Director General of HRAEPY, said that “the women of HRAEPY, are not alone, the 8M is a milestone, to bring to the forefront the progress achieved, the challenges and pending challenges, to ensure the rights of women on equal terms and with the utmost respect” said the Director General.
“We are in an important context, to continue advancing in equality, in guaranteeing rights and opportunities for you; this year, as a Hospital, it is our turn to pronounce Zero Tolerance to Sexual Harassment and Sexual Harassment, that with these actions, will help us to eliminate in the workplace any type of violence” he pointed out.
In this context, Niza Dolores Cuevas Flores, from the National Union of Health Workers and Gabriela Barrera Baqueiro, Technical Coordinator, expressed the Public Statement, “Zero Tolerance to Sexual Harassment and Sexual Harassment in the Regional Hospital of High Specialty of the Yucatan Peninsula”, which is a mechanism to protect all staff and users who receive care in the health sector.
