Since 2022, the AMAR del Sureste Foundation has promised to work in favor of the children of the State. It currently houses 27 children between the ages of 0 and 6, who are mostly infant victims of violence, sexual abuse, and omission of care.
In this context, and in order to obtain more specific information to be able to work with and understand children who have gone through a difficult process in their family environment, the foundation organized the first AMAR 2023 International Congress, where the president and founder, Georgina Ortega Joaquín, highlighted the importance of this, since they are a way to sensitize and train society and professionals who work with children on relevant issues related to their daily work.
“It is important that we learn to empathize and understand the needs of children from their perspective and not just that of the adult. As well as being able to love them, respecting the part of their stories, experiences and stages of development”, said the founder.
We ran into a lack of tools to care for these little ones who have suffered a variety of violent situations and traumas, so with this congress it is sought that both the people who collaborate with the shelter, as well as mental health professionals, other organizations and the same authorities in charge of caring for children in the state may have tools to counteract this, such as adoption.
One of the important data presented by the foundation is that in Yucatan there were 469.4 reports of abuse for every 100,000 children of the entity. Child abuse was considered physical harm, sexual abuse, abandonment, emotional abuse, omission of care, negligence, and exploitation.
“Our goal is to ensure that our beneficiaries remain in the institution only for the time necessary to heal their physical and emotional wounds and that they have adequate development to be able to later integrate into a functional family (biological or adoptive) with parents who can provide them with security. and the affection they need”, noted the director.
In the same way, during the inauguration of this congress, which will have as guests professionals in child psychology and Latin American neurosciences, the importance of the work of the AMAR Association in the search for comprehensive well-being for the children that come to them was highlighted. as well as the accompaniment and the work they do to achieve adoptions.
Also present was Agustín Puerto Basteri, a young physical trainer, who spoke about his life testimony, assuring that if a photograph of love had to be taken, it would have to be of adoption.
“Since this originates from love and the desire to love someone and give them a family. I am grateful to those who made the courageous decision to give me up for adoption, with the intention of having a better life and opportunities; and to my family for always telling me the truth and growing up in a home full of love and empathy,” he said.
The AMAR 2023 International Congress will be held until March 31 at the Great Museum of the Mayan World, where conferences will be held from 9 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon.
