The good streak for electric vehicle sales in Yucatán, which in 2021 exceeded the 2020 record by almost 120%, continued in 2022 and, as of December 31 of that year, exceeded the previous year’s total by 66.72%, according to information released by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
According to information from the Administrative Registry of the Light Vehicle Automotive Industry of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) at the close of 2022, one thousand two electric and hybrid units were sold, which is the highest figure in the last 7 years. In 2021, 601 units were sold, exceeding expectations for this type of automobile.
Based on the breakdown, in 2022, hybrid units (with a combustion engine and electric motor) were the most sold with 790 units displaced. In the case of plugin hybrids (rechargeable), 93 units were shipped, and 119 were registered in the case of 100% electric cars.
The detailed figures by type of unit per month during 2022 are as follows:
- January reported the sale of 31 hybrids, 9 plug-in hybrids, and 5 electric.
- February, 30 hybrids, 8 plug-in hybrids, and 4 electric.
- March, 61 hybrids, 5 plug-ins and 2 electric.
- April, 36, 7 and 2, respectively.
- May, there were 71 hybrids, 7 plug-ins and 9 electric.
- June, 73 hybrids, 40 plug-ins, and 33 electric.
- July, 66 hybrids, 3 plug-in hybrids and 10 electrics;
- August, 60, 7 and 11 units, respectively.
- September, 60 hybrids, 11 plug-ins and 7 electrics.
- October, 79 hybrids, 5 plug-ins and 14 electrics.
- November, 87 hybrids, 21 plug-ins and 16 electrics.
- December, 109, 21 and 26, respectively.
From 2016 to 2018, this type of environmentally “friendly” vehicles register a growing demand among buyers:
- 2016: 61 cars were sold (54 hybrids, 5 plugin hybrids, and 2 electric).
- 2017, the increase was 50.8% with 92 units sold (89 hybrids and 3 plugins).
- 2018, sales increased by 120.6% with 203 (174 hybrids, 28 plugins, and one electric).
