The Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA) has registered millionaire losses since its inauguration last year, closing the fiscal year with losses of 4 million 22 thousand 107 pesos and 71 cents per day in useless operations.

This, without counting the subsidies it received from the government and which, according to AIFA’s financial statements, had to be tripled during 2022, reports El Financiero.

According to information from the National Transparency Platform, AIFA recorded income from the sale of goods and services amounting to 138 million 820 thousand 665 pesos and 64 cents, that is, it billed 485 thousand 386 pesos daily.

Likewise, AIFA’s operating expenses amounted to 1,289 million 143 thousand 459 pesos and 46 cents, that is, the airport spent 4 million 507 thousand 386 pesos and 90 cents per day it was operating during the past year, that is, it had an expense 9.2 times higher than the amount invoiced per day of operation.

According to Isidoro Pastor, general director of the airport, during its first year the air terminal transported 1.3 million passengers, a figure far from what was projected in the master plan and the goal set by the government, which sought to have a flow of 2.4 million travelers in the first year of operation.

Pastor has stated on several occasions that by this year it is expected to reach “financial profitability“, a goal that could be achieved if AIFA can accommodate 200 flights per day.

Despite the actions of the administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), after one year of operations, has not been able to reduce the saturation of the Mexico City International Airport (AICM), as REPORTUR.mx reports (AIFA completes one year without reducing the saturation of the AICM).
