512 schools now have Internet access under the Yucatan Digital program

Students and teachers from 512 schools in the state now have access to free high-speed internet, as part of the “Yucatán Digital” program, whose progress was supervised on Wednesday, March 8th, by Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal at the “Serapio Rendón” middle and high school, which already has this service that will be taken to all elementary and high schools throughout the state.

Vila Dosal verified with the students the operation of the network that uses fiber optic internet connection, which at each point has 50 megabytes downstream and 50 upstream, so that they can not only download homework, but also upload it to the different platforms used by teachers.

After a wave of applause and cheers from students, teachers and parents, the governor stressed the importance of bringing internet service to all corners of the state to ensure equal opportunities for all Yucatecan families, promoting education, health, justice and productivity.

In the framework of International Women’s Day, Vila Dosal assured that his administration will continue working to respect and empower Yucatecan women, as well as guaranteeing equal opportunities for all.

“This is the work of women and men, and we men have to do our part by respecting women and supporting them. From the State Government we will continue to do our part so that in Yucatán we can continue to make the changes that the state needs and continue to transform our region for the better, so that girls and boys, can have a better Yucatán than the one your parents had,” he said.

Before the principals of the middle school, Rosa Ileana Rivera, and the high school, Bertha Elena Trejo Gómez, the governor made a series of announcements to improve the educational performance of the students and to make the school facilities more comfortable and safe.

In this sense, he instructed the head of the Ministry of Education (Segey), Liborio Vidal Aguilar, to deliver next week 20 computers; three projectors for the high school; 5 microscopes for the laboratory; furniture, a sports kit for the high school and middle school with soccer and basketballs.

He also instructed the director of Idefey, Luis Jorge Montalvo Duarte, to repair and maintain the drinking fountains, high school bathrooms, basketball hoops, fans and the electrical network throughout the school. He also promised to send new goals with nets so that the youngsters can play soccer at break time.

Later, the governor visited the school’s digital classroom, where he was able to see the use of the internet with the Cuatrix program, which seeks to train high school students.
