The U.S. Embassy in Mexico issued a statement in which the FBI requests assistance in locating 4 U.S. citizens allegedly kidnapped in Mexico.
MEXICO CITY – Through its web portal, the U.S. Embassy in Mexico released a statement requesting assistance in locating four U.S. citizens in Mexican territory.
The document was classified as “Emergency Information for American Citizens” and was published yesterday, Sunday, March 5, in Brownsville, Texas.
Assault and kidnapping of U.S. citizens
The release explains that, “Oliver Rich, Special Agent in Charge of the San Antonio Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), whose territory includes the city of Brownsville, Texas, announced today (yesterday, Sunday) that the FBI is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the person(s) responsible for the assault and kidnapping of four American citizens on March 3, 2023 in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico.”
Offer $50,000 reward
The document adds that, “The FBI, its federal partners, and Mexican law enforcement authorities are investigating the case. The FBI announced that it is offering a $50,000 reward for the return of the victims and the capture of those involved”.
The official statement explains that, “On March 3, 2023, four U.S. citizens crossed into Matamoros, Tamaulipas, in a white minivan with North Carolina license plates. Shortly after crossing into Mexico, unidentified gunmen shot at the passengers in the vehicle. The gunmen put the four U.S. citizens into another vehicle and fled the scene with them.
The bulletin concludes by providing contact information for the investigating institution to provide information to locate the U.S. citizens.
