Merida, Yucatan, March 24, 2023.- The 39 people involved in the violent events that occurred last Monday; March 20th, in Chicxulub Puerto, will remain in justified preventive custody, after the Second Control Court of the First Judicial District resolved the situation of the accused for the crimes of injury against public servant, dangerous attacks against public servant, damage to property of others against public institution and resistance of individuals, all committed as a gang.
In a session held at the Oral Justice Center of Merida, which began on Thursday and ended this Friday morning, the State Attorney General’s Office provided the evidence for the indictment of the crimes indicated, in a hearing held at the Oral Justice Center of Merida.
In the facts contained in the investigation file under criminal case 98/2023 it was stated that the arrest of these persons occurred while a ministerial diligence was being carried out in invaded land in the aforementioned locality, where the group of accused persons set fire to brush and attacked the public servants who had gone to the place, for which reason they were arrested and transferred to this social representation where the corresponding investigation file began to be integrated.
After a lengthy hearing, and after qualifying the detention as legal, the litigation prosecutors presented and formulated the criminal charges, and then presented the evidence gathered in the investigation to request the defendants’ indictment, who requested that their legal situation be resolved within 144 hours, so the Control Judge summoned the parties to continue the hearing on March 27th.
Finally, this social representation requested the need of justified preventive detention as a precautionary measure, so the Control Judge issued the mentioned measure for the duration of the process, until establishing the responsibility of each one of the involved parties.
