After a delayed event at the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán (UADY), which was attended by the head of the Secretaría General de Gobierno, María Dolores Fritz Sierra, deputies, officials and academics, held a desolate funeral tribute to one of the most important social fighters of the Mexican Republic, Felipe Santiago Carillo Puerto, at the General Cemetery of Mérida.

(Mérida, Yucatán).- During the ceremony, an elderly man who said his name was Héctor Castellanos Manzanero interrupted the ceremony, presenting a sign with eight names printed on a tarp demanding a plaque next to the “Dragon of the Green Eyes”.

“I am a spokesman for Hernan Cortés Jimenez who is the grandson of Carrillo Puerto’s former driver, why haven’t they done justice to those who were also shot,” the man shouted.

Before retiring, getting the attention of those present, with tears in his eyes and a broken voice he told them “you socialists and authorities this is the last time I intervene, but it was Carrillo Puerto himself who said do not abandon my Indians and I say, do not forget these comrades”.

Memorial tribute

The tomb of the martyr of the National Proletariat, who was the founder of the current Autonomous University of Yucatan (AUDY), is located in the General Cemetery of Merida, where the rector of the university, Carlos Alberto Estrada Pinto, led the civic act.

Without any message, the photo was also taken with representatives of the Socialist Party of the Southeast, elements of the honor guard of the State Police and its war band, in remembrance of January 3, 1924, when Felipe Carrillo Puerto was shot.

On the other hand, the Morena party arrived at the site where they also took a floral offering to the tomb of Carrillo Puerto, where their state leader took advantage of the moment to call to retake the ideals of the Yucatecan hero.

In the company of the state leadership and social activists, Tavera Escalante pointed out that this homage is a recognition of the thought and work of a great Yucatecan, who this January 3 marks the 99th anniversary of his assassination.

He indicated that it is fundamental that the current generations know and put into practice the ideals of Carrillo Puerto in favor of society, “since history has taught us the reasons for the tragic death of Carrillo Puerto“.
