Yucatan was consolidated last October as the fourth entity in Mexico with the highest value in the construction of works for transportation and urbanization, representing 6.7 percent of the country’s total, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

In its indicators of construction companies for October 2022, it highlighted that the value of production in the construction sector in transportation and urbanization Yucatán ranked fourth nationally, only below the State of Mexico, whose value represented 18.7 percent of the national total; followed by Campeche, with 9.3, and Jalisco with 8.9; while in Quintana Roo it was 2.9 percent of the total national value.

According to Inegi, the transportation and urbanization subsector includes transportation works in cities and urbanization, highways, roads and bridges, airports, railway works, maritime and river infrastructure, and auxiliary works and works for transportation.

It is worth noting that both Campeche and Yucatán are building the Mayan Train, which is why the value of their production is increasing, in addition to the fact that in Yucatán the international airport of Mérida is being adapted.

In addition, among the State Government’s investment projects in October is the construction, reconstruction and maintenance of streets in Kanasín; maintenance of bridges on the Merida Ring Road, the construction and installation of infrastructure for Merida’s Integrated Public Transportation System, as well as the maintenance of cycling infrastructure and the construction of streets in Merida, among others.

In its indicators, Inegi also states that, in the total of construction subsectors, the value generated in Yucatán was 2.2 percent of the national total, ranking 18th in the country. On the Peninsula, Campeche had 3.4 percent of the country’s value and Quintana Roo 1.8.

In turn, in construction, Yucatan’s value at the national level was 1.3 percent, occupying 18th place along with Puebla and Aguascalientes. Meanwhile, at the peninsular level, Campeche’s value was 0.1 and Quintana Roo’s was 1.9 percent of the national value.

In water, irrigation and sanitation, the value of construction in the state was 0.6 percent of the national value, ranking 16th along with Aguascalientes, Campeche and Guerrero; while Quintana Roo’s value was 0.2 percent of the national total.

In electricity and telecommunications, the value of construction in the state was 3.6 percent of the national value, ranking 10th. On the Peninsula, Campeche’s value was 0.4 percent and Quintana Roo’s was zero percent.

In oil and petrochemicals, neither Yucatán nor Quintana Roo had any value. Tabasco ranked first, with 63.6 percent of the total national value, followed by Hidalgo, with 9.9 percent; Veracruz, 8.2, and Campeche, with 5.4 percent.

Finally, in others, which includes installations in buildings, assembly of structures, masonry and finishing works, and works and auxiliary works for other constructions; Yucatan’s value was 1.9 percent of the national total, occupying 19th place. It was the lowest in the Peninsula, since in Quintana Roo the value was 3.6 percent and Campeche 3.2 percent.
