The Popocatepetl volcano presented this Tuesday morning, December 20, an intense activity formed by exhalations with columns of water vapor, gases and ash in a northeast direction.
At 06:39 hours this Tuesday, one of the most important exhalations of the day was registered, with a column of more than one kilometer above the crater level.
According to the National Center for Disaster Prevention (Cenapred), the activity registered by Popocatepetl is within the parameters of the Yellow Alert Phase 2. The scenarios foreseen for this phase, according to the specialists of the scientific organism, contemplate the continuation of low to intermediate scale explosive activity, light to moderate ash rains in nearby towns, possibility of pyroclastic flows and short range mud flows.

The members of the National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) urged the population not to approach the volcano and especially the crater, due to the danger of falling ballistic fragments; while, in case of heavy rains, it is recommended to stay away from the bottom of ravines due to the danger of mud and debris flows.
In case of ash fall, Civil Protection authorities requested to close doors and windows; to use masks or a wet handkerchief in case of respiratory diseases; not to use contact lenses; to cover water containers; to protect pets and food; and to drink water throughout the day.
