President Andrés Manuel López Obrador assured that his government is not intervening in the conflict in Peru, and added that Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia and Mexico released a joint communiqué in which they call for respecting the popular vote and human rights in Peru.
“It is not interferenceism, to be there conducting anything, our ambassador is in his diplomatic work and it is Foreign Affairs that is in charge of carrying out this process,” he stated in his daily press conference.
López Obrador also emphasized that Mexico maintains diplomatic relations with Peru on pause and continues to recognize Pedro Castillo as president of that nation “until they resolve it in terms of legality“, he said.
The President explained that the doctrine of Mexican foreign policy is that there is no “recognition” to any foreign government.
“What our diplomacy is doing is analyzing the events that are taking place, uniting with other countries to seek a democratic solution without violating human rights”, he emphasized in view of the conflict in that country.
