Even though in Yucatan animal abuse is punishable by law, cases continue to be registered in the state, on this occasion, five dogs and one cat died allegedly poisoned in Tizimín.

The events were recorded on Tuesday, August 30th in the Santa Rosa de Lima neighborhood, specifically on Calle 54-D between 69 and 71 to 73, where the lifeless bodies of the animals were found.

Residents of the area reported the events, indicating that the person who committed this barbarity did not think about the damage that could be caused to those who could breathe the smell given off by the bodies of the animals as they began to decompose.

They indicated that there were even two animals that were fighting for their lives and on several occasions the children tried to caress them when they saw them suffer, but their parents prevented them from approaching the dying animals.

Citizens removed the animals from public roads so that the vehicles did not crush them and placed them in cardboard boxes, while others remained lying on the asphalt.

They do not know who could have caused this act of animal cruelty, but they suspected a person from the area who hates animals and who already has a history of committing this same act a few years ago.

Sanctions for animal abuse in Yucatan
At the beginning of the year it was indicated that the new Animal Protection and Welfare Law approved in the Yucatan Congress indicates that 5 years in prison and fines of up to 9 million pesos will be given to people who commit acts of animal abuse and cruelty.

The sanctions will not apply only to those who commit crimes against domestic species but will be extended to wild, guide, assistance, work, zootherapy, and abandoned species.
