In Yucatan there are no windows for the processing of permits granted by Conapesca. Sepasy and Conapesca seek to give order and control to the state fishing sector
(MÉRIDA, Yuc. – CONAPESCA).- In Yucatán there are four thousand boats that operate without fishing permits in charge of at least 12 thousand people to capture grouper, octopus, snail, lobster and other scale species, and before this the Fishing Commission of The Chamber of Representatives has begun work with the Secretary of Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture of the State Government and with the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries (Conapesca) of the Federal Government to give way to a fisheries regulation.
The federal representative and secretary of the Chamber’s Fisheries Commission, Mario Peraza Ramírez, explained that in Yucatan there are no windows for processing fishing permits, which are granted by Conapesca, whose headquarters are in Mazatlán, Sinaloa Estate, and added that Yucatecan fishermen face transportation and economic problems to go to that entity.
“A fisherman who lives in El Cuyo, even to travel to Mérida has to separate the day, and it is a trip; Imagine that you have to travel to Mazatlan to process a new permit or to renew it, that is where we see the great challenges and great opportunities in the fishing sector.”
Mario Peraza added that there is currently no reliable census of fishermen who operate duly accredited in this entity, since the Secretariat for Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture has one, and Conapesca another, the estimate is 7 thousand, who are currently registered to programs such as “Bienpesca” of the Federal Government.
