Yucatan is at the forefront in pediatric rehabilitation, with the new area aimed at children with disabilities, of the Basic Rehabilitation Unit (UBR) of the municipality of Ticul
(TICUL, YUC. – STATE GOVERNMENT).- This Monday, January 19th, Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal inaugurated the new pediatric rehabilitation area of the UBR of the Ticul municipality, which has the first Multisensory Stimulation Center (CEMS) in the state and the country with characteristics of the region and the Maya culture.
During his stay at the Ticul UBR, the Governor, accompanied by the director of the System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF) Yucatan, María Teresa Boehm Calero, learned about the new facilities designed to care for children with disabilities, equipped to provide mechanotherapy, speech and occupational therapy, therapeutic gym, children’s electrotherapy and support through CEMS technology.

Among the innovations in this area is the CEMS, from where specialized care is provided to patients with autism, visual, hearing and neuromotor disabilities, or with neurological damage, through more than 100 functions and tasks, with characteristics of the region and its environment, which make learning more fun. It is expected to receive 400 users per month.
In this regard, the director of the Center for Rehabilitation and Special Education (CREE), Juan Miguel Vera Santos, explained that this innovative Center helps to offer a therapy where children learn by playing, with the technology used in Europe, providing them with a rehabilitation where the occupational field, sensory integration and multidimensional stimulation are integrated.

He also explained that, thanks to the interactive system used on this site, Sensy Magic, the environment of the sessions can be adapted to the needs of the patient, since it regulates light and sound, and the child uses textures, a cube and a seesaw, to stimulate touch, vision, hearing, balance, language, learning and motor skills. In total, the investment for the intervention of the UBR of Ticul was 1.2 million pesos.
Along with the host Ticul mayor, Rafael Gerardo Montalvo Mata, and the head of the Social Development Secretariat (Sedesol), Roger Torres Peniche, the Governor also verified the facilities that received maintenance and remodeling from the UBR, where care is now offered to adults with disabilities, through high quality services, such as physical therapy, electrotherapy and mechanotherapy, since, before, the areas were common for all ages.

It is worth mentioning that the UBR of Ticul is the second with the highest demand in the state, 50% of users are older adults and 30% are pediatric patients.
