Thursday Night Movie at Il Caffé presents: “Being the Ricardos” with Nicole Kidman

Greetings film fans:

According to Gold Derby (the go-to site for betting odds for entertainment awards), Nicole Kidman is the current favorite to win a Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of Lucille Ball in Being the Ricardos (2021), with Olivia Coleman a very close second. 

(Those positions are reversed when it comes to receiving a nomination in that category, where Ms. Coleman has the lead, so it would be fair to call it a virtual tie). 

Co-starring Javier Bardem as Ricky Ricardo, the movie covers the early years of their relationship (both marital and professional), at a time when being labeled a communist threatened both careers and marriages. 

Viewers who grew up watching I Love Lucy reruns (and who didn’t?) will appreciate the sharp contrast between Lucille Ball’s screen presence and her real-life persona.
