MÉRIDA, Yuc., January 6, 2022.- The World Voyager, one of the most luxurious cruise ships, arrived for the first time at the port of Progreso, this Thursday morning, along with the Carnival Breeze, which brought 2,713 Yucatán passengers and a crew of 1,335 people, so according to the head of the Tourism Development Secretariat (Sefotur), Michelle Fridman Hirsch, the state entity starts with very good numbers in 2022, almost equal to January 2019, before the pandemic.

For January, a total of 12 cruise ships are expected to visit, of which four, including today’s, would arrive for the first time. “We are happy because the number of arrivals we expect in January is very similar to the number we had in January 2019, that is, we are recovering the pre-pandemic figures little by little,” said Fridman Hirsch.

When questioned by Quadratín, about whether the rebound in Covid 19 infections has generated cancellations, the tourism secretary assured that “so far no, there is no cancellation.”

During the year, Progreso would be welcoming 108 cruise ships, “obviously these are current figures and they are subject to change, we know that this pandemic situation has not ended and that represents the possibility of registering changes in favor or against the forecasts ”.

She added that the competent authorities continue to be very careful with the protocols to keep Yucatan as an attractive and safe destination. On the Carnival side, there are 90 arrivals and an additional two from Disney that would travel to the entity.

The head of SEFOTUR stressed that it has been thanks to the infrastructure improvements that were carried out in Progreso that there is greater disembarkation of passengers who “are visiting, buying, consuming, enjoying the activities here and in the rest of the State, an extraordinary season”, concluded.
