Through these projects and actions in tourism, the State Government continues to promote this sector, which has been a very important part of the economic recovery of Yucatan and its families.

(MERIDA, YUC. – YUCATAN STATE GOVERNMENT), January 21, 2022.-. After the Third Results Report of Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal, a recount is made of the actions implemented through the state government, in terms of tourism, with which, in 2021, Yucatan attracted investments in this area in the 7 regions of the territory , which amount to more than 25,000 million pesos and are generating more than 32,000 jobs, both direct and indirect, a fact confirmed by the head of the federal Tourism Secretariat (Sectur), Miguel Torruco.

Similarly, Yucatan has stood out and been internationally recognized by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), because the Magical Town of Maní became an example as a destination for rural tourism, by becoming a creditor of the Best Outstanding Town seal.

Also, as a result of the efforts of the state government to promote the tourism industry, the campaign “365 days in Yucatan” was launched to encourage this sector in the entity; In addition, other international distinctions have been received, as the entity was included in the “Best in Travel” ranking, prepared by Lonely Planet, and Mérida was placed among the best 10 cities to travel to in 2022, by Forbes México, as well as being rated as the “Best Small City in the World” by Condé Nast Traveler magazine.

In the tourism sector, the State Government has managed to make Yucatan the venue for important national and international events, such as the Smart City Expo LATAM Congress, one of the most relevant events worldwide on innovation, technological development and city design, in its digital version in 2020 and face-to-face in 2021, as happened with the Tianguis Turístico.

This was complemented by the reactivation of cruise activity, in July 2021, after 16 months without arrivals, which, according to the State Government, has been a relief for many service providers, not only Progreso, but of the entire state, because it has represented the return of a segment with a lot of momentum, which is projected to exceed in 2022 the historical records established in 2019, before the declaration of the pandemic, when there were 146 arrivals, 470,418 passengers and a injection of 18.8 million dollars.

Regarding air connectivity, during the year that ended, the offer of flights was increased with the recovery of 5 international routes, with destinations to Miami, Houston, Dallas, Oakland and Toronto, which are added to the 9 existing national ones.
