Cancun, Quintana Roo, (January 3, 2022).- The Federal Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, reported this Thursday that Cancun will remain the favorite tourist destination in the country, capturing the majority of visits this year, based on the number of flights and seats scheduled, so far, January to December 2022.
The official pointed out that next year there will be 56 thousand 951 flights to the destination and 10 million 505 thousand visitors, which means that the main tourist pole of the Mexican Caribbean will surpass, with 8 thousand 590 flights and 2.8 million airplane seats, which were reported in 2019, before the pandemic.
Two years ago, 48,361 flights were made, with 7,684,000 passengers transported, so the forecasts are encouraging days into 2022 and given the possible arrival of a new wave of infections.
Cancun will lead the five most visited cities in 2022, along with Mexico City, Guadalajara, San José del Cabo and Puerto Vallarta. The capital of the country will have 55,737 flights and 9,660,000 scheduled seats, with a spill of 10.7 billion US dollars.
For its part, Guadalajara will have 15,764 flights and 2,707,000 thousand seats, with an economic benefit calculated at 3.1 billion US dollars.
Likewise, Puerto Vallarta will have 13,174 flights and 2,142,000 thousand seats, having an impact on 2.3 billion US dollars, which reveals that Cancun will continue to be the engine of tourism in Mexico for next year.
It should be remembered that on December 18, the Cancun International Airport, with 648 operations in one day, approached the historical record established in 2018, when in one day it reported 659 flights. Also, in 2021, it was placed in the world ranking as the second airport with the most international arrivals throughout 2021, only behind Dubai.
