Merida, Yucatan, (January 7, 2022) .- The Dzibichaltún sound and light show may begin operations this month, at this time the technical operation and time monitoring are progressing to receive the first spectators who will be able to see this archaeological site which has a history of 1,500 years.
The new show will offer a new option for tourists who spend the night in the city of Mérida, it will have two-night tours, in Spanish and English, and was developed in collaboration with specialists from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).
The archaeological zone of Dzibilchaltún, which in the Maya language means “Place where there is writing on the stones”, is located 16 kilometers north of the city of Mérida, on an area of 5 million 701 thousand square meters, declared a national park, integrates about 70 buildings and constructions with antiquity that date from century V of our era.
The Patronato Cultur reported that night performances at archaeological sites provide a unique experience. In 2021 they added attendance of about 25 thousand people, being that only formal representations were held during one semester of the year.
The state agency detailed that, in 2021, Dzibilchaltún received a total of 37 thousand 345 visitors on daytime tours, mainly domestic tourists. In 2019, the ancient Maya city added just over 63 thousand tourists, an important component being the number of international visitors from the cruise routes that arrive at the Port of Progreso.
