Merida, Yucatan, (January 15, 2022).- Despite the traffic light changing to yellow in Yucatan , there will be no change in the Mérida Fest program. This was reported by the director of Culture of the city council, Irving Berlin Villafaña, highlighting that massive events -postponed by the health authorities- are those with a capacity greater than 20,000 people.
Approximately 80 percent of the activities, he said, are contemplated in digital formats, in closed venues and with controlled capacity; unlike last year when the epidemiological traffic light was orange and 100 percent of these were carried out virtually.
To these events, he assured, no more than 600 people attend, which means that the city festival is designed so that events in public spaces have a capacity limited to 700 people. Due to the above, the tickets are electronic.
In this sense, Berlín Villafaña highlighted the quality of the invited artists; but he clarified that his participation convenes a limited number of people, precisely so as not to encourage concentration.
“It is a basis for sustaining the city’s economy. This city supports its economy in hotels, restaurants, bars, travel packages; It is a city with a call for guests. Therefore, the Mérida Fest also considers the visitors”, he added.
Irving Berlin endorsed the Mérida Fest’s commitment to adjust to the pandemic traffic lights. He clarified that the yellow color indicates a specific instruction regarding capacity; the new thing, he added, is that massive events are postponed.
“In the definition of massive events is the numerical component of more than 20 thousand people. I mean, a massive show is a Guns N’ Roses concert, for example. We do not have any event with more than 700 people in the public space”, he assured.
