Mexico closed 2021 with 28,160 intentional homicides, according to data from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection.
(CDMX – Times Media Mexico) – The fight against violence is turning into a snowball for the Mexican government. AMLO’s administration has abandoned the strategy to use force against criminal organizations. According to figures reported by state prosecutors and federal agencies, Mexico closed in 2021 with 28,160 intentional homicides. That figure is equivalent to 77.1 homicides per day.
According to the count, this total figure detailed in 2021 represents 2.6 percent less than the murders registered in the previous year, which detailed 28,925 murders.
December 2021 closed with a total of 2,274 murders, while on the last day of the year, there were 80 victims of intentional homicide, mainly reported in the states of Puebla (11), Jalisco (10), Guanajuato (6), Michoacán (6) and Nuevo León (6).
The quarter with the most victims of this crime was between July and September, with 7,200 murders. The months with the most cases of intentional homicide were March and May, with 2,444 and 2,462 cases, respectively.
In 2021, a total of 2,379 homicides were detailed in January; February, 2,206; March, 2,444; April, 2,370; May, 2,462; June, 2,251; July, with 2,381; August, with 2,414; September, 2,405; October, 2,332; November, 2,242, and 2,274 in December, which has just concluded.

The month with the highest number of intentional homicides was October 2020, with 3,328; on the other hand, the month with the lowest number of intentional homicides was November 2021 with 2,593 events, compared to February 2021, considered by the authorities as the month with the least number of murders.
