The city of Merida maintains excellent levels of tourism, almost as good as before the pandemic.
(MERIDA Yuc – TYT) – Contrary to 2020, when Christmas was overtaken by the Covid-19 pandemic and consequently the influx of tourists to spend in Merida was almost nil, this 2021, several national and foreign visitors spent the Christmas holidays in the city.
Interviewed by our reporters, many mentioned the beauty and cleanliness of the city and its wide range of tourist attractions and exceptional gastronomy. The Plaza Grande, the Cathedral, the beaches, and archeological zones are the most visited sites, where tourists could be seen at all hours of the day. In addition, hundreds of tourists walked the majestic Paseo Montejo Avenue at all hours of the day.
The city’s hotels showed excellent occupancy, and the tour operators could not keep up with the tourists who wanted to visit the ruins and cenotes. The city has both Mexican and foreign visitors, including Americans, Europeans, and Japanese.
So far, Merida’s international airport continues to receive flights, and there have been no cancellations.
