Institutions and companies work for state technological innovation. Scientific knowledge drives the development of the region.
MÉRIDA, Yucatán, (December 09, 2021).- Yucatán ranks fourth in the country with the highest number of scientists per 100,000 inhabitants, with 33.91 registered in the National System of Researchers (SNI), based on data from the National Council for Science and Technology (Conacyt) 2020.
It should be noted that scientific and technological development is a priority in the State, which is demonstrated through the places obtained at the national level and the promotion of science in the entity, such as the Yucatán Prize for Youth Science 2021 for which 37 proposals were received, 22 from undergraduate and 13 from baccalaureate and 2 from high school. The six winners are women originally from Oxkutzcab and Ticul municipalities.
Similarly, in order to preserve the high levels of security in the entity, the modernization and equipping of the Control, Command, Communications, Computing, Coordination, and Intelligence Center (C5i) continued.
Data from Reniecyt, platform, and database that contains the information of the support subjects of the various Conacyt funds, indicate that of the 573 Yucatecan institutions registered, 371 are companies, which is why the entity occupies the fifth place with the highest number of companies and the eighth with the highest number of research centers.
Yucatán has the Scientific and Technological Park (PCYT), which houses research centers and higher education institutions, as well as private companies that share the objective of working in coordination to promote the development of the region, based on scientific knowledge, development technology, and innovation in strategic sectors.
Some institutions in the entity are the Center for Research and Advanced Studies (Cinvestav) of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), the Center for Scientific Research (CICY), and the Center for Research and Assistance in Technology and Design of the State of Jalisco ( Ciatej), among others
