Quintana Roo, (December 22, 2021).- ATMs, banks, shopping malls and places with the highest influx of people are a priority for the police, for the prevention of robbery to passers-by during this year-end.
Until the end of October, there were 1,919 complaints to the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) for robberies of passersby, both on public roads and in spaces open to the public, more than there were in the same period last year, which were 1,452 , according to information from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (Sesnsp).
According to statistics, there was an increase of 32.16% in robberies of this type, committed mainly by one or two people, who with a knife or firearm assaulted their victims, taking cash, mobile devices, jewelry or some object of value.
Lucio Hernández Gutiérrez, Secretary of Public Security (SSP) of Quintana Roo, stressed that crime prevention is essential in this season when families go out for a walk through places or places of fun and even where they are going to have cash.
He explained for several days that the agents were dispersed as part of the operations that were contemplated for the December season when there is a high influx of people.
He indicated that in the case of bank branches, surveillance is permanent in the outskirts to prevent any account holder from being robbed, not only in this month of December but in all other months of the year.
The National Survey of Victimization and Perception of Public Safety (Envipe) 2021 announced that in the state of Quintana Roo, the area where the population of 18 years and over felt most insecure is at ATMs on public roads .
