Each vessel will bring close to 4 thousand travelers, which will leave an essential economic benefit in the port; they are looking for this activity to be reactivated entirely.

(Progreso Yucatan – TYT) – The end of 2021 is expected to be positive for the tourism sector in Progreso. Two cruise ships will arrive with about 4 thousand people. Next Friday, 24th, the Disney Cruise Line will arrive on its first pilot trip. Then, on the 31st, the Royal Caribbean ships will return, which will leave a substantial economic benefit to the port, informed Luis García, director of Municipal Tourism.

“The arrival of these ships will leave a good economic revenue and a very good reactivation for local businesses. Moreover, the return of the Royal Caribbean is significant. After all, it is a shipping company that was with us for a long time and decided to return because it has seen the improvements that have been made in the municipality,” García said.

The official explained that since the State Government and the Ministry of Health informed that Yucatán had a green light, there has been a greater influx of tourists. At the same time, more businesses that were closed have been reactivated, but they are confident that 2022 will be a better year for the port.

For his part, Mayor Julián Zacarías Curí said that it is vital that the port is known because different shipping lines are looking for destinations. He added that they estimate that by April 2022, they will have the boats at sea at 100 percent, which is extremely important because this municipality is opening to a new era of tourism.

“This reopening to the tourism of ships at 100 percent is a situation that we must take advantage of because it brings welfare to families, generates sources of employment, and brings resources to their homes. We are working on training, organization, delivery of equipment for a better image of service providers. We have been through very challenging moments. It is time to work together to move forward,” Zacarías said.

He pointed out that the December-January season attracts many visitors, mainly from the United States, Canada, and Europe, and we are working to ensure that cruise passengers enjoy the destination and return.

In addition to the arrival of cruise ships, cultural activities continue on the Yucatan coast, so all the inhabitants of the state are invited to follow the official accounts of the Progreso City Hall to learn about the events that will take place.
