Yucatecans could start exporting honey to the Middle East.

“Yucatecan products have awakened the appetite of Middle Eastern businessmen, who are already asking for quotations and requesting shipments”, said the Secretary of Economic Development and Labor, Ernesto Herrera Novelo.

For next February, he said, businessmen from Saudi Arabia invited exporters of Yucatecan honey to return to that nation to possibly close a commercial deal for this sweet.

The businessmen and traders in Dubai are also showing great interest in the products of a “famous Yucatecan cookie-making firm”. They are already asking and requesting references and everything they need to know about Yucatecan cookies.

“I am very happy and I am very pleased to see that they are asking and requesting information from a very famous cookie company that we all know because this opens new markets for Yucatán,” said Mr. Herrera Novelo in an interview during the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of the Airbus Helicopter Pilot School and the Mexico Aviation School at Merida’s international airport.

Herrera Novelo said that in meetings with the Ministers of Tourism and Agriculture at the recent Dubai 2021 World Expo, the need for all food products from Yucatán to obtain Halal certification was raised because it is a requirement of Islamic Law as they are Muslims and that is what their religion establishes.

However, the quality of Yucatecan products will surely comply with that request, so they expressed their interest in citrus, vegetables, fruits, condiments, food spices, cookies, among other foods produced and manufactured in Yucatán.

“Yucatecan products aroused much interest in them,” stressed the head of Sefoet, who was in Dubai with Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal and a mission of business leaders. “Honey, for example, we were accompanied by two major global exporters based here, one of them Mi Miel, and they were invited to return in February to close operations with them.”

“Today, derived from these two visions of the two countries, Yucatecan businessmen are already quoting in the textile sector through Canainves and Index. They are interested in buying gowns, garments, clothing, and mouth covers for hospitals in Saudi Arabia, all of this makes me very happy because we are seeing results.”

The official emphasized that the vision is very clear: “we must bring in foreign investment because it generates jobs, promote the growth of local companies and open new markets for Yucatecan companies so that they can grow along with the state’s economic development.”

“Even in the interior of the state there is the agro-industry and we want the economic spillover to arrive, for there to be more employment and to be involved in this growth and economic reactivation in all sectors.” he continued

“Yucatecan honey exporters are already quoting container shipping from the port of Progreso,” he revealed. Honey in Saudi Arabia is a staple part of the breakfast diet in the country. Thus the reason of excitement when they learned that Yucatecan honey is number one in Mexico.”

“They have an aroused appetite to buy Yucatecan products, that is why I am commenting, the quotations are being formulated, but we must not forget that Halal certification is fundamental in the subject of food.”
