The exotic birds came from Guadalajara in cardboard boxes

Mérida, Yucatán.- Eight specimens of birds known as ” faisán” were seized by members of the National Guard (GN), in coordination with personnel from the Federal Attorney’s Office for Environmental Protection (Profepa), at Merida’s International Airport, coming from Guadalajara, Jalisco.

During security inspections at a courier and parcel company at the air terminal, eight cardboard boxes were found with the exotic birds, without documentation proving the legal origin or transport of the specimens.

The birds of the subspecies: “Dorado”, “Gigi”, “Lady” and “Swinhoe”, were secured and transferred to the Parque Zoológico del Centenario, located in the city of Mérida, for their safekeeping and proper handling.

The National Guard strengthens the surveillance of compliance with environmental regulations regarding natural resources.
