The Condusef warned about the new mode of fraud when withdrawing at bank tellers.

Quintana Roo, (December 10, 2021).- In December, most people receive vouchers and Christmas bonuses, so it is common for there to be fraud in ATMs, before this The National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (Condusef) alerted Mexicans for the “carving card”.

What is “card carving” fraud like?

Condusef explained that the “card carving” is carried out when the criminal tricks the victim by posing as a bank worker or a customer who wants to help, he will say that the cashier has failures and then take the card and exchange it for a fake plastic.

While the criminal obtains the original card, one of his accomplices watches to see which PIN the customer uses while trying to use his cloned card at the ATM.

In this way, the criminals obtain the original card, the PIN, and the money of the bank user.

How can you avoid fraud?

-Don’t talk or let anyone get close to you while you are at the cashier.

-Do not allow any stranger to take your card.

-Try to cover the PIN while you carry out the transaction.

What area should I go to if I am a victim of fraud?

At the time of suffering some type of fraud, it is important that you report it to the financial institution with which you have the account, in case of problems with your bank account. You can also go to the Condusef so that we can advise you on the process you should follow.
