New tool to inform if you have been exposed to Covid in Yucatán, if you activate this feature on your phone you will be notified of nearby infections.

Mérida, Yucatán.- Starting today, Yucatecans can activate notifications of exposure to Covid on their IOS or Android devices, the new tool created by Google and Apple that will serve to reinforce coronavirus prevention measures.

This Thursday at the Siglo XXI Convention Center, Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal presented the aforementioned tool, which is not an App, but a function that is already integrated into cell phones, but will be activated in Yucatán starting today.

During the launch of this new technology, it was explained that “Covid Yucatán Notifications” will notify you on your cell phone if you have been within 10 meters of a positive Covid case for a prolonged period of time, without violating the privacy of users or sharing your geographic location and without interfering with the operation of your cell phone.

Governor Mauricio Vila recommended all Yucatecans to activate this platform before the imminent arrival of the Omicron variant to Yucatán and to reduce the chains of contagion.

How does the Covid exposure notification work?

The platform is secure, since it does not store any type of user identity data, nor does it have access to personal information, but works through the exchange of random codes from registered devices, which change a few minutes after being generated.

If a person tests positive and notifies the tool of that diagnosis, it sends an alert to their contacts of the last 14 days, without telling them who they are or where they are, as there is no GPS tracking.

In this regard, the Undersecretary of Information Technology and Communications of the State, Rodrigo Solis Pasos, explained that, once this tool is activated and notifications are enabled, with Bluetooth on, it will have a range of approximately 10 meters, to identify the devices of those who have been in contact for more than 5 minutes.

He also stressed the importance of reporting positive cases, so that this system fulfills its function, for which you must access the Google settings and activate the notifications, where you will be asked to register a code that will arrive via text message and, then, you must answer a few simple questions to follow up on the positive cases.

How to activate the Covid exposure notification?

To activate this system it is necessary to keep the Bluetooth function turned on and once activated, there are several different ways to obtain this tool:

An invitation will be sent to all cell phones, through a massive text message, where the only thing you will have to do is to follow the indications.

A QR code with the corresponding information will be disseminated in the social networks of the State Government. Each user will be able to do it on his or her device, entering directly into his or her settings. In the settings of your mobile device look for the option exposure notifications, make sure that it is active.

You can also type Covid exposure notification in your phone’s search engine and you will get a window with the logo of the Secretariat of Health of Yucatán.

Once the tool window appears, you must click continue, then select country and state, and finally accept the terms and conditions.

Vaccination in Yucatán

When giving a review of the vaccination in Yucatán, the head of the Yucatán Health Secretariat, Mauricio Sauri Vivas, indicated that just over 3 million doses against Covid have been received.

Likewise, almost 2.8 million vaccines have been administered, which means that 82.4% of the population over 15 years of age has at least one, and 80.4% have their complete vaccination schedule.

In Merida alone, he continued, more than 1.2 million vaccines have been administered and there is 87.1% coverage in people 18 years of age and older, with one dose, and 85.9% with both.

Yucatán is one of the first states in the country with more progress in this process; in culminating with the 18 and over age groups; in initiating the application of boosters for older adults, “and currently, we are also vaccinating adolescents between 15 and 17 years old, in Mérida and the interior of the State”, he concluded.
