Despite the increase in Covid-19 cases, four Yucatan municipalities remain free of defunctions

Mérida, Yucatán, (October 29, 2021).- Despite the notable increase in the incidence of Covid-19 in the State, as a result of the presence of the Beta and Gamma variants, four municipalities remain free of deaths, revealed the Yucatan Health Secretariat (SSY).

So far, only Cantamayec, Huhí, Quintana Roo, and Tahdziú are free of the mortality caused by the pandemic, and most interestingly, the latter two have been without deaths for more than 19 months.

From March 2020 to date, 6,277 deaths have occurred in the entity due to Covid. 19, of which 2,903 occurred in 2020, 46.2 percent, and 3,474 are from this current year, 53.8 percent.

In this current year, there are 12 municipalities with a fatality rate of at least one percent, although in Mérida there are three out of every five deceased.

Likewise, there are 74 municipalities with less than 10 cases, among them are the four with null results.

Regarding the geography of mortality, in Mérida there are 1,960 deceased, 58.09 percent; followed by Valladolid, with 145 deaths, 4.3 percent; Kanasín, with 86 deceased, 2.55 percent; Progreso, with 77 extinct, 2.28 percent, and Ticul, with 69, 2.04 percent.

Also, Tizimín, with 64 unfortunate events, 1.9 percent; Umán, with 62 deaths, 1.84 percent; Motul, with 60 deceased, 1.78 percent; Tekax, with 52 cases, 1.54 percent, and Oxkutzcab, with 44 deaths, 1.3 percent; Hunucmá, with 42 deaths, 1.24 percent, and Maxcanú, with 38 deaths, 1.13 percent.

These 12 municipalities account for 80 percent of the total deaths registered in 2021, that is, four out of every five.
