An initiative has been presented in the State Congress
To prevent criminal acts against taxi users, in both conventional and technological platforms, Yucatan is promoting a new reform to the “Transport Law”, the reform makes the installation of the Global Positioning System (GPS) mandatory, so police can monitor the units directly.
Lila Rosa Frias Castillo, president of the “Urban Development, Housing and Infrastructure Committee of the State Congress” said that the proposal adds Article 22, and will reform the “Transport Law” of the State.
“We have passed the proposal to the representatives of all parties, seeking that all taxi units carry GPS system. The safety of users is of utmost importance.” she said.
Something that Congress has been projecting, is to have a view that does not focus on the driver, but rather prioritize the passengers, and through GPS there is a way to track the vehicles.
Lila Frias added that monitoring the route taken by taxi corporations, both in Merida and within the state, strengthens security measures in favor of its users.
“We will work with every union, group or platform with a central administration monitoring the location of every single unit, at all times, I think it will be a big step,” Frias declared.
The legislator recalled that last week a Congress Commission requested the preparation of a draft of law, for reforms and additions to various provisions of the Transport Law, regarding motorcycletaxis in the State Road Safety Law.
