Alcohol sale hours on Sundays will not be extended this holiday season in Yucatan

The measure is taken in order to avoid the high rate of intoxication due to alcohol consumption.

The president of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Canaco-Servytur) of Merida, Michel Salum Francis, reported that this year, sale of alcoholic beverages on Sundays during the month of December will not be extended as it was usually done in past years.

He assured that they requested the extension of the schedule but the State Government did not approve it as they are carrying out alcohol prevention actions across the state.

It should be noted that Yucatan is the national leader in cases of acute intoxication by alcoholism with 7,774 cases as of October 5th, representing 25 percent of the total cases recorded nationally.
