Trump offers Mexico help waging war on drug cartels after murder of U.S. citizens

BAVISPE Chihuahua, México (Times Media Mexico)  – 9 members of the Bavispe Mormon community in northern Mexico, were killed in what the victims’ relatives called a “massacre” by drug cartels.

Donald Trump called on Mexico to wage war on drug cartels Tuesday after reports emerged of American citizens gunned down in northern Mexico, while also offering U.S. aid to the effort in a series of tweets.

“This is the time for Mexico, with the help of the United States, to wage WAR on the drug cartels and wipe them off the face of the earth,” Trump tweeted. “We merely await a call from your great new president!”

The slew of tweets was spurred by an attack in which at least nine members of a prominent Mormon family were killed in what the victims’ relatives called a “massacre” by drug cartels in Mexico’s Sonora state. The victims, which included six children, were members of the LeBarón family, who have reportedly lived in the border region for decades.

“A wonderful family and friends from Utah got caught between two vicious drug cartels, who were shooting at each other, with the result being many great American people killed, including young children, and some missing,” Trump tweeted

“If Mexico needs or requests help in cleaning out these monsters, the United States stands ready, willing & able to get involved and do the job quickly and effectively,” he continued. “The great new President of Mexico has made this a big issue, but the cartels have become so large and powerful that you sometimes need an army to defeat an army!”

We cannot forget that Donald Trump has long politicized the threat of violence from Mexico and has accused the country over and over again of sending “rapists” and criminals across the border… We must not forget either how Trump consistently has insulted its south of the border neighbour and has push on his hard-line regarding border protection againt immigrants coming from Mexico.

AMLO´s answer to Trump was: “We are very grateful to President Trump and any foreign government that wants to help and cooperate, but in these cases, we have to act independently”. (SIC)

In today´s morning conference López Obrador expressed his respect for his counterpart’s way of thinking, however, he said he does not agree with him when it comes to waging a war against organized crime. “It is not in accordance with our convictions, the worst thing there can be is war,” he said.

Questioned about whether his government could work together with the FBI, López Obrador said that maybe that could happen, as long as Mexico’s sovereignty is respected. “Another government cannot intervene in our territory if there is no cooperation agreement and of course the express request of our government,” he said.

As an American, I postulate how I would feel if the president were to tell our military to stand down from a gun fight with an internal faction, just the point it came to that is astounding. We’re coming.
