Congresswoman accuses Tourism Secretary of paying for a $1.5 million pesos dinner

It already seems to be customary that the head of the Secretariat of Tourism of Yucatan (SEFOTUR), Michelle Fridman Hirsch is in the middle of a scandal. This time, she is being accused of unclear practices in the allocation of contracts and waste of public resources.

Representative of Movimiento Ciudadano, Milagros Romero Bastarrachea

The representative of Movimiento Ciudadano, Milagros Romero Bastarrachea (MC) accused the head of the Secretariat of Tourism Development, Michelle Fridman Hirsch, of not adhering to the austerity policy maintained by the Government of Yucatan and demeriting the work of Governor Mauricio Vila.

Romero Bastarrachea went up to the podium of the legislative compound last Wednesday, Oct. 30, to point out the inconsistencies that occured in the Secretariat of Tourist Development (Sefotur) with the waste of the budget that is opposed to the austerity policies implemented since the beginning of the current government in all areas.

Congresswoman Romero Bastarrachea reported that just for the “Tianguis Turístico” more than 10 million pesos were spent on three direct contracts:
– 7 million for the participation, assembly and disassembly of the stand.
– 1.5 million for a Dinner
– 4.8 million for design, production and logistics by Magnos.

SEFOTUR also paid this consortium 10 million pesos of direct acquisition for the promotion of the tourist heritage for the “Trova Festival” in Izamal, as well as almost half a million pesos for panelists, forums, and the Congress for Sustainable Tourism.

The congresswoman added that the company “Magnos Entertainment Commercialization”, used by Michelle Friedman Hirsch is related to the alleged diversion of resources estimated at $100 million pesos, in the government of former governor Graco Ramirez, in Morelos.

“I want to know what actions will be taken by the state government in the face of this situation. I demand the Secretary of Tourism to act in accordance with the austerity policies dictated, I also request the governor´s intervention because we, the Yucatecan people are ofended,” the congresswoman emphasized.

It is worth remembering that the Secretary of Tourism of Yucatan has been involved in multiple scandals since she took office. The behavior of the Secretary of Tourism Michelle Fridman Hirsch indignifies the Yucatan people, something that the governor doesn’t seem to care about.
