Chetumal, Quintana Roo hosted “Devfest” a Google Developers Summit

Chetumal, the state capital of Quintana Roo, is one of the 400 locations around the world where this year’s Devfest takes place. Promoted by Google Developers Group Chetumal, Devfest is a worldwide community interested in learning, using and promoting technology.

Isaías Contreras Benitez organizer of the developer community Google Developers Group GDG-Chetumal reported that the DevFest that took place on Thursday November 1st, at the Yook’ol Kaab Planetarium, is one of the 400 made on a large scale that are addressed to the community annually all over the world.

“The DevFest GDGs are considered the largest annual GDG technology event held by citizens worldwide. Our goal is to unite the best technical exponents and bring the knowledge of our local communities closer together, ”he said.

This is the first Dev Fest ever held in Chetumal and was attended by about 150 people, most of them College students from the University of Quintana Roo, Chetumal Institute of Technology (ITCH) and Public Technological School CBTIS 214.

During five hours of conferences, speakers from Sonora, Jalisco, Mexico City and Yucatan, addressed various technological topics such as Game Builder, Flutter, Swift, CSS Methodologies and Android Dynamic, among others.

One of the guests of honor came from the FabLab Maya, a company represented by Manuel Canul from Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo, dedicated to the development of technologies.

“The objectives of this meeting”, said Isaías Contreras, “are to promote technology in companies, research centers and universities, as well as  research and technological development to contribute to the work and personal growth of the local community”.

Besides, Devfest creates synergies between members by sharing knowledge and experiences, as well as serving as a platform for the realization of projects in cooperation with different entities.

The meeting took place in an inclusive environment where anyone interested in technology, from beginner developers to experienced professionals could join in.

Isaías Contreras said that the southern state of Quintana Roo was chosen because it is important to motivate the creation and development of new applications and technologies throughout the region.
