Hanal Pixan Festival in Yucatan 2019 (October 24th to November 12th)

In order to promote and consolidate the tourist offer in the state of Yucatan, as well as safeguard the traditions of the Maya culture, Sefotur announced the second edition of the Hanal Pixan Festival in Yucatan 2019, which will take place from October 24th to November 12th.

The celebration of “Hanal Pixán” is a tradition of the Maya people and extends throughout the Yucatan Peninsula.

During these days of tradition, the dead are remembered in a special way, they are offered food and beverages to maintain the link between the living and the dead, as the ancient Maya believed that the soul is immortal.

In this year’s edition, the attendees will have a unique approach to the ancestral Maya culture of our region, through artistic and cultural activities that will take place in the different participating municipalities, including Mérida, Progreso, Izamal, Peto, Tekax, Valladolid and Tizimín.

Among the many activities that will be carried out during the days of the Festival, visitors can witness the traditional Paseo de las Ánimas, exhibition and contest of altars, photographic exhibits, the famous Mucbipollo Festival, the fantastic Camino de Flores and the representation of the Maya ball game “Pok ta pok”, among many other activities in each municipality.
