An 18-year-old student from Colombia was found dead on Sunday October 6th, by staff of the Ministry of Public Security (SSP), at the bottom of a cenote located in the eastern part of the state of Yucatan.

The man was on a student field trip, and was found dead after having disappeared into the waters of the Xcajum cenote, an eco-tourism site close to the Chichen Itza archaeological site.

According to the report, the young man went to bathe with four other companions, but after a while he disappeared, so they began to look for him, and as the man was nowhere to be found, they decided to give notice to the authorities.

At the eco-tourism site, located on kilometer 11 of the Pisté-Dzitás road, firefighters and divers from the Yucatan state Public Securityr Secretariar SSP arrived, who finally detected the student’s lifeless body inside the cenote.

The deceased, identified as Sebastian V., went to the Xcajum cenote with other colleagues from his country to spend the day.

However, from one moment to another, the young people noticed Sebastian’s absence, so they started looking for him and, having no success, decided to give notice to the local authorities.

While divers and firefighters arrived, local personnel checked surveillance cameras and noticed that the man had not emerged from the water at any moment.

Divers found the body of the Colombian student at a depth of 45 meters (150 feet).
