Yucatán is the state with the lowest perception of insecurity in all of Mexico

Thanks to the security measures that have been implemented in Yucatan, as well as the culture of peace of its inhabitants, Yucatán positioned itself this year as the State with the lowest perception of insecurity in all of Mexico, with 37.5 percent.

This figure was reflected during the National Survey of Victimization and Perception on Public Security (Encuesta Nacional de Victimización y Percepción sobre Seguridad Pública: Envipe) conducted by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

In addition, in Mérida there was a reduction in diferent crimes, according to comparative data January-August 2018 and 2019 of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System.

Among the crimes that had a decrease is vehicle theft with 57 percent, extortion 50 percent, homicides 37 percent, rape 36 percent and family violence 20 percent.

Another important fact is that Yucatán remained in that period with zero cases of kidnapping and femicide.

It should be noted that in recent days, during his visit to the state, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that Yucatán is the safest state in the country, free of violence and a role model at national level.

AMLO highlighted that in Yucatán there is an average of 334 police officers per 100 thousand inhabitants, this is 11.5% more public security agents than the international average standard figure.

During a morning press conference held on Friday Sep. 20th at the Military Air Base Number 8 in Mérida, the President stressed that Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal has a good relationship with the armed forces, with the Attorney General’s Office and with the Judiciary of the State and the Federation, “working together is very important” AMLO stated.
