“We have until October 24 of this year to generate the legal framework, the regulatory framework for recreational use, a situation that is being done with much responsibility, hand in hand with all legislators, holding discussion forums, involving all of society,” explained the legislator from Morena.

The Senate will address the ruling of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), which established that “the recreational use of cannabis should be regulated instead of prohibited” as recognized by PT Senator Cora Cecilia Pinedo.

In the same sense, the Supreme Court, declared as unconstitutional diverse articles of the General Law of Health, founded in that “the prohibition of cannabis consumption goes against the free development of personality”, indicated the legislator.

The president of the Senate, Monica Fernandez Balboa, through an official letter, instructed the senators to present the corresponding projects in order to comply with the judicial resolution.

In its 2018 ruling, the Supreme Court clarified that the ruling is limited to the cultivation and consumption of cannabis, but does not allow the marketing of marijuana “or other use of narcotic drugs or psychotropics”.
