“La Camarista” is the production that will represent Mexico in the 2020 Academy Awards Ceremony

La Camarista (The Housekeeper), a movie directed by Mexican cinematographer Lila Avilés, was the film selected by the Mexican Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to represent Mexico for the Oscar and Goya awards next year.

The Mexican Institute of Cinematography and the AMACC informed through social networks about this decision, looking towards nominations in the category for Best International Film. “We feel very happy about the nomination,” said Aviles.

At the Morelia International Film Festival, the Avilés film rose with the highest statuette of the FICM Eye for Best Mexican Film. He also won the Ariel for best debut.

The Housekeeper premiered internationally at the Toronto event, and will also have participation at Stockholm, Sweden; Geneva, Switzerland; and at the AFI Fest in Los Angeles, California; some of the most important independent cinema festivals in the world.

The film narrative opens the bowels of a five-star hotel in Mexico City, where Eva (Gabriela Cartol) is a discreet housekeeping lady who tries her best to do her job, including caring for babies and making impossible spots disappear, sometimes doing so at the expense of his personal life.

“Every time I returned to the hotel to shoot a scene, I thought about these people that go there every day of their lives, walk through those halls, knock on all those doors, waiting for someone to open… Many times these individuals are looking for love, or just for a place to work, and unfortunately they do not always find any… but their experience shows that, when you have the desire to do something, you simply have to fight for what you want, “said the director during a meeting with the press.
