As reported on The Yucatan Times last August 23rd, men opened fire from a moving vehicle, killing a dog in the municipality of Tekax. And on Saturday September 7th, residents of the  Jacinto Canek neighborhood in Tizimín, Yucatán posted on social networks the story about a dog that got shot in the same way, by unidentified subjects.

Canela” is a four-year-old mestizo dog that roams the streets of the aforementioned neighborhood, and is fed and cared for by locals.

On Saturday, one of the families taking care of “Canela” found her injured and quickly took her to the vet, where they were told that the injury was made by a bullet that entered the dog’s chest.

The vet said that fortunately, the projectile went in and out of the animal’s body. The dog is now under treatment for recovery, and the doctor is following up on her health state closely.

The incident caused outrage among the population, since the dog is totally harmless, and it has been sterilized. So, people cannot understand why such a cowardly and inhumane act could be committed against defenseless animal.

Locals made a call on the population of Tizimín, to be alert and careful with their pets, since this situation means a security threat not only for dogs, but also for the people of this city.

People are already looking for the person or persons responsible, asking citizens to coordinate and report any information that could lead to the identity of the perpetrator.

Cases of dog poisoning have also been recorded in Tizimín, but this is the first time that a dog has been actually shot with fire arm in this city.
